{"id":711,"date":"2024-01-24T10:10:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T10:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:10109\/?p=711"},"modified":"2025-07-30T13:05:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T13:05:06","slug":"eatron-technologies-and-wmg-university-of-warwick-deliver-ground-breaking-battery-health-algorithms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eatron.com\/eatron-technologies-and-wmg-university-of-warwick-deliver-ground-breaking-battery-health-algorithms\/","title":{"rendered":"Eatron Technologies and WMG, University of Warwick deliver ground-breaking battery health algorithms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eatron Technologies and WMG, University of Warwick develop innovative and highly accurate estimates for EV battery Remaining Useful Life (RUL)\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Project VIPER combines WMG\u2019s advanced electrochemical models with Eatron\u2019s cloud battery management and integration expertise\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Funding from the Faraday Institution brought the project forward by at least a year\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video src=\"https:\/\/eatron.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/3178e573-a36c-43ec-987c-b60656f704ef.mp4\" playsinline><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>24 January 2024<\/strong> \u2013 Eatron Technologies and WMG, University of Warwick have developed an innovative new approach to estimating accurately an electric vehicle battery\u2019s remaining useful life, helping to unlock additional performance, greater range, and increased levels of safety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed with funding from the Faraday Institution, the collaborative project (known as VIPER \u2013 Validated &amp; Integrated Platform for battery Remaining useful life) has combined WMG\u2019s advanced electrochemical models with Eatron\u2019s cloud battery management and integration expertise to deliver Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimates that are more than 90% accurate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The condition and performance of a battery changes as the cells within it age over time. If this natural degradation is not monitored closely, it can lead to cell failures with serious consequences. Traditional RUL estimates often rely on simple voltage-based analytics that may miss complex failure conditions, potentially risking the safety of consumers, while others that err on the side of caution may result in perfectly healthy battery packs being unnecessarily rendered unusable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By accurately predicting a battery\u2019s RUL, it becomes possible to extract the maximum performance and longevity from it, without compromising safety.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution developed by Eatron and WMG can be embedded in an automotive-grade battery management system (BMS) or deployed across a cloud-based platform, a concept that is particularly appealing for fleet applications.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, when an automotive battery is eventually redeployed into its second life, it can be accompanied by an accurate picture of its health in the form of a battery passport that negates the need for expensive testing and increases the breadth of its operating window.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnlocking the hidden capacity of a battery has the potential to increase an EV\u2019s usable range and extend its lifetime,\u201d said Dr Umut Genc, CEO of Eatron. \u201cThere are benefits for the used EV market, too; as a result of these highly accurate RUL estimates, buyers could have confidence in the condition of a vehicle\u2019s battery and be reassured about its ability to perform for many years to come.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe funding from the Faraday Institution has allowed us to bring the project forward by at least a year, and with innovative approaches such as this now in high demand, particularly among automotive OEMs, we\u2019re delighted to be a part of bringing this technology to the market.\u201d Dhammika Widanage, Associate Professor, WMG, University of Warwick&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur support for UK-based efforts to develop cost-effective batteries that are efficient, fast charging, and can be safely and sustainably recycled is crucial to achieving the rapid growth in EVs on our roads that will see us deliver on our net-zero targets,\u201d said Professor Pam Thomas, CEO, Faraday Institution. \u201cThe Eatron\/WMG collaboration is a great example of the research and innovation elements of the Faraday Battery Challenge working together to deliver impact.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For further press information or to arrange an interview, please use the media contacts below.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About Eatron Technologies<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Eatron is a fast-growing technology company dedicated to unlocking the full potential of batteries with intelligent software for all vehicle and battery manufacturers worldwide.
